Review of "The Angels of Morgan Hill" by Donna VanLiere

Snuggle up in your favorite chair and get ready to travel back in time to a little town nestled in the hills of eastern Tennessee. The year is 1947 - life is simple, times are tough, but the memories are sweet.

Told by a child named Jane, the story begins with the death of her father who abused his wife and family and drank too much. Jane has a little brother, John, and her mother is pregnant with her third child when her husband dies.

The story weaves a tale of a small town trying to accept the presence of the first black family to move there. The prejudice and hate is strong, but love is stronger.

In the end, the people of the town of Morgan Hill learn a valuable lesson in acceptance and the town is stronger for it.

Joe Cannon is a quiet, shy man who has loved Jane’s mother since childhood. He helps the family after the death of their father, but will he find the courage to ask Jane to marry him?

Henry Walker runs the little general store in Morgan Hill and his love and words of wisdom help Jane and her siblings through some tough times in their lives.

This book is full of wonderful life lessons, and takes you back to a simpler time. It is a very enjoyable read that pulls you right in from the beginning and keeps you reading right to the very end.

Get ready with the Kleenex at the ending, though. This story really tugs on your heart strings!
